If - as I have written so often - that disaster is always, but sadly, the best teacher, then it may be possible that the horrendous events unfolding in the Gulf of Mexico will be the wake-up call that environmentalists have been warning us about.

Besides the death to many species of plants and animals, this event will single handedly destroy the lives of millions, tank state economies, and make food and transportation prices skyrocket.

There is nothing to rejoice in with any of this. It is a time for genuine grieving and reaching out to each other and especially those who are in the direct path of this nightmare.

Furthermore, to stop the bleeding in the gulf, we need to put an end to the blame game that does nothing to come up with a solution.
